About The Author
I am Bernard Matthias Igiri, the author of Y = Code. I am also the founder of Iron Oxide Labs LLC, a venture I launched in 2023 after a rewarding 15-year career in software engineering.
As a software engineer, I specialized in developing full-stack enterprise web applications, with a focus on enhancing user interfaces and user experiences. In addition, I spent three years contributing to Mozilla's Firefox web browser, further deepening my expertise in web technologies.
My journey also includes a unique chapter of service, in the United States Army as a Psychological Operation Specialist. During this time, I spent one year deployed to Iraq in 2006. This experience has instilled in me the values of discipline, adaptability, and teamwork, shaping the man that I am today.
Beyond my professional life, I cherish my roles as a devoted husband to my wonderful wife, and as a proud father of two remarkable sons! My roots trace back to a family of diverse backgrounds, with my father being a Nigerian nuclear physicist, and my mother a Trinidadian-American nurse.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, I spent the bulk of my formative years in Maryland, close to the bustling energy of Washington, D.C. When I'm not immersed in software development, I keep active in the great outdoors, engaging in distance running, biking, hiking, and camping with my family. Nature provides me with a sense of peace and tranquility, and as I disconnect from technology and work.
